Stop buying Used Cars from common sources, says mechanic urge car shoppers in Nigeria

A mechanic with 27 years of experience in the automotive industry has explained why buying a used car from a rental car company’s fleet is not a good idea, even when the prices are so affordable. The technician, Sherwood Jr., who owns a service garage, shared his views on TikTok, and his audience echoed his sentiment in the comments.

In his TikTok clip for his garage, Royalty Auto Service (@royaltyautoservice), Sherwood Jr. explains that it’s generally best to avoid purchasing a used car from a rental company, even though these agencies tend to take good care of their fleets. He further explains that rental car drivers are not familiar with the vehicle, which can create a situation where a motorist isn’t paying attention to the road 100%.

Additionally, rental car drivers typically operate the vehicle in an unfamiliar area, so they may travel through rougher roads they would’ve previously avoided had they known their condition. Sherwood III, the garage’s service advisor, and Sherwood Jr.’s son, who was operating the camera, admitted that he’s more likely to drive a rental car harder than his vehicle. Sherwood Jr. responded that his colleague tells him he does the same thing whenever he’s in another town with a rental car for events like mechanic training sessions.
