“FRSC or Police Should Educate Road Users of the Importance of Clearing the Way for an Ambulance”: Nigerian Man Speaks Up

In a recent video that appeared online, a Nigerian man shows the moment an ambulance was trying to drive through a busy road due to an emergency quickly.

While the ambulance increased its speed and put on the siren to indicate urgency and the need to pass through the busy road quickly, road users were still unable to let the vehicle pass through. For a while, the ambulance was stuck in a particular spot, waiting for other road users to pass through before it could negotiate its way.

The video was shared on the Instagram handle @carcontinent with the caption:

“I don’t have a problem with Ambulance trying hard to get it its destination very fast, but I feel this is still very risky, I feel the way out should be FRSC or Police should educate road users of the importance of clearing the way once its an ambulance so they can try to get to their destination quick using the right channel. This one way, he can hit anyone trying to cross and also an incoming vehicle can ram into them.”

Here are some opinions on the post:”

@elc_bolaji commented: “Clearing the way in your words won’t work in Lagos. That’s why most roads should have a special lane like the BRT lane for emergencies. Fire service, ambulance or even police.”

@_agmotors commented: “That’s not even the problem. The funny thing is some of the ambulance ain’t on any emergency movement. I know one that just uses it every-time with Siren on just go get to his destination faser, even when his destination isn’t work!!”

@being_ade commented: “I totally agree with you. Even when gaming (GTA), when your in an ambulance or a police car and you turn on your siren, other road users tend to make way even if you’re on the wrong lane. But here, people will be fighting for road with ambulance.”
