One thing about car brands is that they are always in the business of trying to make new history with their vehicles. As such, cars are being modified as technology continues to expand. Over the years, cars have evolved from where they used to be to where they currently are today.

One of the vehicles that has made history is the 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith. Why exactly is this vehicle special? Well, it’s said that the vehicle has a toilet inside of it

A Unique Feature of the 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Is That It Has A Toilet

In 1954, Vignale built only one Rolls-Royce. This Silver Wraith was custom ordered by Joseph Maschuch of New York.

The 1954 long-wheel-base chassis was sent to Alfredo Vignale Coachworks in Italy from New York and finished in the Spring of 1955.

Maschuch ordered quite a few unique features to add to his car. He wanted the engine block, cylinder head, generator, starter motor, air cleaner, carburettor, and inlet manifold to have a green paint finish.

The aluminium valve covers were to be highly polished. All visible pipes under the hood were to be chrome plated.

The inside had a lot of beautiful woodwork, including a television inside that woodwork. Also, there was a full bar and a telephone next to the rear seat.

One very advanced feature for the time was the front seats were electronically operated. The radio was a Becker Mexico.

The rear seats were backwards reclining. However, it had a gold toilet. The gold toilet under the back seat became the most interesting and unique feature of the car. This toilet even had the could dump onto the road as the car drove by.

Was The Toilet Inside The Rolls-Royce Fully-Functional?

It is true that the toilet under the backseat of this Vignale 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith was functional. However, it was not functional like the modern toilets. But, it could be used and then dumped onto the road below. It was even directly across from the television that was built into the woodwork. So, Maschuch could have used the toilet on long trips, all while watching television.

However, while that is technically true, that was not the primary reason the built-in toilet was made. Maschuch told curious fans that the toilet was only used to keep champagne chilled.

Even Modern Rolls-Royce Automobiles Still Have Champagne Coolers

Modern Rolls-Royce vehicles can feature champagne coolers. These extravagant coolers are factory accessories, and adding one to a Rolls-Royce costs about $50,000. Rolls-Royce can tailor the cooler to your liking if the standard model is not special enough for you.

A hidden button sets everything into motion as the four main compartments open for easy access. On each side are two drawers with two black aluminium and carbon-fibre tubes. A serving tray from Tudor oak rises above four hand-blown crystal champagne flutes.

There are four cotton napkins neatly beneath the glasses. The champagne bottle is hidden inside a tube. You still need to pre-chill the champagne before your trip, however. The other insulated tube protects a helping of snacks. Inside modern Rolls-Royce, there’s a “caviar configuration” with four separate containers to hold your caviar and whatever suits your fancy.

Two mother-of-pearl spoons with aluminium handles stick to their magnetic drawer. This champagne cooler comes standard in a black-and-red leather scheme. However, you can custom order other colours for an additional cost. On the outside, the cooler is made to look minimalistic, but it’s a complete luxury on the inside.

Conclusion

The cooler feature in the Rolls-Royce is what was used in the 1954 Rolls-Royce Wraith as a toilet. However, it has a different function today. It’s used for chilling champagne inside the Rolls-Royce.
