The Tesla Model 3 is an affordable high volume electric car that is worth buying and trying out. About four Tesla cars have been sent to Nigeria. Tesla is the only automobile company that has wowed people over the years for 20 years now. They only produce models that depend on batteries, that is electrical cars. They have no hybrid car model at all. The Tesla Model 3 is a sleek car that has a unique interior and comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive.

The present owners of the Tesla Models in Nigeria imported theirs from the United States of America (USA) for prices that range between N25 million and N60 million, depending on the brand. This fee excludes the shipping costs and customs clearing they must have gone through.

Comparison Between the cost of owning a Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Camry Hybrid in Nigeria

The cost of purchasing and owning the Tesla Model 3 electric car is now less than an entry-level Toyota Camry Ascent Hybrid following its reduction for the third time in less than 12 months.

If a Tesla Model 3 is purchased in Nigeria, it means there would be no more spending on fuel because the car deals with charging batteries. It also means no more buying of engine oil for monthly routine checking. It also means that there would be no more engine replacement or repair costs.

Owning a Toyota Camry Hybrid means that there will be spending on fuel. Let us assume the price of fuel is N170 per litre. It means that the owner will have to spend a whole lot on fuel alone. Talk less of other issues such as changing of engine and monthly engine oil routine checking.

This means that the owner of the Toyota Camry Hybrid would have spent nothing less than N7 million for purchasing of fuel and engine oil while the owner of the Tesla Model 3 just has to leave his or her car charging overnight and get driving in the morning once it is fully charged.

The battery of the Tesla Model 3 needs to be replaced too. Since it is not just sold in Nigeria, the owner has to get it from an authentic dealer which is the Giga Nevada factory from the USA that deals with Tesla batteries. The battery would cost the owner about N5 million to purchase.

After all these calculations, it would be seen that the owner of the Toyota Camry Hybrid would run out of money faster than the Tesla Model 3 owner.

Even the cost of ownership after using and reselling the Tesla Model 3 also costs less than the Toyota Camry Hybrid. This is largely due to the fact that the values on the Tesla Model 3 are much higher than that of Toyota. There was a study made on this and the study showed that Tesla Model 3 loses 5.5% of their value per year and can be resold for 80% of their value after 5 years of use but the Toyota Camry Hybrid can only sell for 60% of its original value.

What is useful to note is that while fuel prices will continue to increase as the years go on, but what one can easily do is to get a Tesla Model 3 that has solar energy powered batteries which can further reduce the costs that would be spent in charging batteries.

Tesla Model 3 Long Range weighs a total of 4038 pounds. During its performance testing, it ran from 0 mph to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The acceleration of the model was that fast because of the instant torque that is provided by the batteries in the electric motor and the high-performance Tesla gives to its models.  During the performance testing of the Tesla Model 3, it ran from 0 mph to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The larger Model S reached a speed of 2.5 seconds from 0 mph to 60 mph. Electric cars are not usually as slow as engine combustion cars.

The long-range gives an additional 90 mile range from the base which gives 220 miles to 310 miles. The premium gives a glass roof-top, heated seats, and improved stereo speakers. There is an autopilot included which is a semi-autonomous feature that helps the vehicle park itself and also helps the driver to drive on the road when they become tired to drive themselves.
