Top 10 Best Seven Seater Cars in Nigeria

Seven-seater vehicles have once again regained supremacy for big families with lots of passengers to carry. When buyers realised that it was entirely possible to purchase a big, seven-seat family car with the space and cabin flexibility that is huge enough to accommodate more than 4 children, it became a major sought after car in Nigeria.

Automakers now make myriad sizes and types of SUVs that will offer up to seven seats for those who need them but not all of them will do so while giving you access to the entire engine range. While some models claim full seven-seat, the usage of most of them is often restricted.

Raising your budget and buying a bigger car does not ensure that you would get a seven-seater with different engine options but even though, you will be surprised to see that the top three on this list are all big SUVs.

Volvo XC90:

The best of the best seven-seater SUV is the Volvo XC90. No other seven-seater matched the combination of the seven-seat versatility, upscale cabin interior and wide desirability. The Volvo XC90 has seven seats as a standard feature no matter what engine or trim level is chosen. Even the T8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version has all seven. The recent exterior design of the car makes it stand out on the road and even the interior feels very roomy and light.

The model offers petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. There are also engine options of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid. The model’s second-row seats all slide forward individually, with the middle second-row seat converting into an integrated booster seat.

The third-row seats can be equipped with air conditioning vents for an extra price, and they are big enough for smaller adults or children to use in comfort. Access to them is pretty good too.

Kia Sorento:

The Kia Sorento just entered its fourth generation model and has taken up a more premium look and feel but it comes with an extra cost for those upgrades. No matter the engine choices which are diesel, petrol hybrid or plug-in hybrid, you would still get the seven-seater which is one of the reasons why it is also recommended.

Kia’s latest redesign for the car has brought an all-new modern platform that has an eye-catching exterior and a roomy and slightly classy-feeling cabin. The interior has a lot of the car’s biggish outward size which is a close match to the Land Rover Discovery. The third row can be useful to adults given that they are not tall.

A buyer that needs the model for personal use would prefer the 2.2-litre Diesel engine which remains the best to use. The cheaper 1.6-litre petrol hybrid returns a reasonable economy when driven around but it is slow. The more powerful plug-in hybrid is effortless but it may not interest many drivers because of different reasons.

Land Rover Defender:

Land Rover’s latest big new model is supposed to be at the top of the chart because even though it is expensive, the car has a configurable interior that seems to be present as an option for many as eight passenger seats.

When you buy a longer wheelbase model, the manufacturer will offer you a choice of either five, six or seven-passenger seats. The sixth is possible because of a jump-seat that slots in between the driver and passenger chairs where the console would have otherwise stayed. The seven-seat Defender has third-row chairs that are smaller than those of the Discovery’s but is still manageable.

Audi Q7:

Audi Q7 is a full-size SUV that has been on the list of the best seven-seater vehicles in Nigeria because it has seven-sized passenger seats all with child seat points and it is the only car that does. There is an added advantage for which Audi charges a lot of money. The seven seats can be gained when you stick to the conventional power trains and there are many of them.

The model’s 3.0-litre TDI diesel engines produce 228 horsepower or 282 horsepower, with a 335 horsepower 3.0-litre turbocharged 55 TFSI petrol option bridging the price gap. Available is also a 4.0-litre 429 horsepower tri-turbo V8 diesel for those who want to transport their family of seven. The strength of the model is its top-notch onboard technology and cabin quality, and its refined, isolated, luxurious drive.

Skoda Kodiaq:

The Skoda launched the seven-seat SUV in 2016 with a car that split the difference between full-sized and mid-sized vehicles clearly. The Kodiaq has a large cabin and a good amount of cargo space for its price and size.

The only way the car is lacking is in the cabin width, because the middle second-row seat cannot be slid into an offset position relative to both outer ones, it is tricky to get three child seats installed beside one another.

The model’s engine range is wide and has plenty of choice on both the petrol and diesel which makes the car pleasant and easy to drive.

BMW X5:

The BMW X5 is a seven-seater vehicle that offers an option of electrical sliding and folding second-row seats that make it easier to get access. The third-row seat is just about big enough for adults of average height and children will be more comfortable but there are no Isofix child seat points.

There are only two available in the second row. The X5 has a driving experience that is good for a car. The handle is keen with good performance and drivability.

Mercedes-Benz GLB:

Mercedes has adopted an interesting design strategy with its new smallest SUV which is to squeeze in seven seats as a standard model into a vehicle that is small. This factor helps the car sell in an increasingly crowded market. The vehicle comes in both bottom-end GLB 200 petrol and 220d diesel.

The range-topping is the AMG 35 petrol guises. The base petrol engine gives some ample performance alongside the ride quality which is impressive on adaptive dampers and body control. The middle-row seats slide forward and provide decent space for adults but the rearmost chairs are much smaller and useful for children only. Four out of five rear seats have Isofix child seat points.

Land Rover Discovery:

When the Land Rover was introduced to the public, much fuss was made about the convenience added by its five rearmost motorised seats. This feature is not standard on the lower trim levels but it is not much use if you have got cargo in the trunk that needs to be either moved or removed before you can convert the seats.

The entry-level trims get seven seats as standard features along with Isofix anchorages on four out of five of those back seats. Buyers will have to opt for the HSE to get access to the motorised, app-managed ‘intelligent’ folding seats, but they are a costly option.

Land Rover Discovery Sport:

The smallest Land Rover of the Range has seven seats as standard features as long as you avoid the bottom trim, the front-wheel-drive D150 Diesel engine. Few of its mid-sized SUV direct rivals such as Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes GLC offer the same passenger accommodation, which is a selling point for the Land Rover.

The Discovery Sport has rearmost seats that are not as big as expected but extra legroom can be made by sliding the middle row chairs forward. The driving experience is impressive for its car’s comfort, and in 4-wheel-drive forms. It has more rough-terrain capability than most people will need too.

Peugeot 5008:

Peugeot 5008
Peugeot 5008

The Peugeot 5008 SUV deserves to be on this list because it has a lot of space. It is the only mid-sized SUV that has the best interior cabin space. It comes with three separate middle-row seats that all slide and fold individually, all with Isofix anchorages. Sliding the middle one forward by itself might make the room feel a little bit squeezed. The third-row seats, though, are big enough to be used by children.

The engine range begins with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel options of about 130 horsepower, to a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel and 1.6-litre turbo petrol options. The vehicle handles well and feels a little smaller but it is of pretty good value.
