Is The 2022 Toyota Highlander Worth Buying?

The simple answer is yes. The 2022 Toyota Highlander is an excellent family-sized SUV to consider buying. The SUV is reliable and comfortable and includes a long list of standard features. It provides more space than the Toyota RAV4, but it is not as big as the space in the Toyota Sequoia.

However, there are still some drawbacks to the 2022 Highlander. Here are some of the highs and lows of the 2022 Toyota Highlander.

The FOUR Pros Of The 2022 Toyota Highlander

  1. The 2022 Toyota Highlander Is A Comfortable SUV

With the 2022 Toyota Highlander, you’ll get an impressively smooth ride over most surfaces. It absorbs impacts and excels on dirt and gravel trails without making the interior rattle with noise.

The cabin of the SUV is pretty quiet. You can hear a little road and wind noise at highway speeds, but you won’t need to raise your voice during a conversation. Even though the engine emits loud droning wheezes at times.

  1. It Is A Relaxing SUV

The 2022 Highlander provides a relaxing low-effort experience for daily commutes. While the rear visibility is limited, the front windshield is wide, and the side mirrors provide plenty of views. The blind-spot warning system is helpful too.

The Highlander has an 18.7-foot turning radius and is pretty agile. While getting the car, it’s recommended to add the 360-degree camera and parking sensors, especially for short drivers who want more visibility over the hood.

  1. It Has A Ton Of Personal Item Storage

There’s enough space in the Highlander. The car features an incredible amount of cubicles and trays for personal storage. There are two trays in front of the centre console and one above the glove box. The centre console is deep and wide as well.

Each row has an abundance of cup holders within reach, and the door pockets can hold larger-sized water bottles. The door pockets are a little lacking, but there are so many places to throw your keys, wallet, phone or other items.

  1. It Has Great Tech Features

The 2022 Highlander has advanced tech that’s simple and intuitive. An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, and it has vibrant graphics. The system is speedy, and everything is clearly labelled.

The base trim also comes with a wireless phone charging pad, a large digital gauge cluster that scores your hybrid driving performance, ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and heated seats in the second row.

An installed mirror can be used to monitor the second and third rows. The intercom system also amplifies your voice throughout the entire vehicle.

Top THREE Cons Of The 2022 Toyota Highlander

  1. It Has An Odd Layout

For example, the wireless phone charger is under the centre console lid, so you have to lift it to access the bin. It also keeps your phone under the lid, so you must open it to answer a call.

The third-row seats sit at a raised position, which makes them higher than the rest. The result is that they take up a lot of space which would have been better if it was on the same level as other seats.

  1. The third Row Is Tiny

The Toyota Highlander 2022 has the smallest third row. It will pretty much size only children. The best use of the third-row seat is to fold it down to provide more cargo space. You get up to 16.0 cubic feet behind the third row. But, when you fold the third row, you’ll get 48.4 cubic feet.

  1. It’s Not Too Sporty

If you want something that has a pronounced sporty feel, then it’s not the Highlander. It has a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 234 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. It just needs a little extra muscle to be more enticing. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.2 seconds.

While the performance is respectable, it just lacks a little excitement. Sport mode helps turn up the fun with faster response times, at least.

The steering wheel is light and could be more responsive around sharp bends. Also, sometimes the car’s suspension can feel a bit floaty and requires more grip.

Conclusion

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is a well-rounded, comfortable, practical and efficient vehicle. However it also has a few shortcomings, but it’s still a capable value-packed family-sized car.
