Do you know the African country with the best transportation system on the continent? Well, it’s certainly not Nigeria, but a country in East Africa—Tanzania.

According to the information posted by the Twitter handle @AfricaFactsZone, Tanzania is a leading country regarding transportation in Africa. As a matter of fact, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has one of the best transportation systems in Africa.

The country equally uses the BRT system, has over 305 BRT buses, and transports 300,000 passengers daily.

In 2018, the country also became the first African country to win the Sustainable Transport Award 2018.

Here are some of the social media reactions to the news:

@tonyalfredk commented: “I’m from Tanzania. We also have trains that go 600km/hr. Most big cities like Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Arush have intercity trains, you can actually work 200km from your home and always be on time because of how effective the transport system is.”

@Tesla_jr10 said: “Good to know that most of Africa is not underdeveloped. Kudos to Tanzania.”

@jiggyfreshbits reacted: “Nothing beats Lagos transit system in Africa.”

@olaodewale replied @jiggyfreshbits saying: “Will you keep quiet?”

@darkhumorrrrr also replied @jiggyfreshbits saying: “Guy abeg o. Nigeria isn’t worth defending spare us o.”

  1. 😀😀 I enjoy reading the comments. Did someone said you can live 200km from your work and still be in time!?

    • It is true Dar es Salaam Rapid transit system (BRT) got lots of accolades, and yes it is indeed as they say.
It is however still developing expanding its network as it grows.
The writer is a bit misleading his/her readers in saying “you can stay 200km away and still be on-time at work”… that is the plan with the newly built SGR. That too is still under construction, and now on its 3rd phase of construction… And Yes when it is done, it will make a huge difference in travel time.
Otherwise, it is true – Tanzania boast of probably the best inter city connectivity. Traveling from one region to another is a bliss, and despite the vast nature of the area you can fly from one end to the other on a matter of minutes, or drive in a matter of hours.
Still, Tanzania deserves accolades in a manner that it has worked to connect the country.

  2. Most cities in East Africa lack, proper and well organized passenger bus services.thisi say because most of the buses carry passengers by filling more than one bus at a time, instead I suggest to them to have order such that one bus is filled and another follows to avoid congestion at bus stops and jam on the roads.
