Mid-size cars -also known as intermediate or standard cars depending on the continent or region; are cars that can accommodate five people and seem little more comfortable than in the smaller classes,  while having more room for more luggage. The disadvantage being that its gas mileage decreases since it got bigger in size. The first car that was used as a standard measure to define a mid-size car in the United States was Rambler 6 which was introduced in 1956. Although it was referred to as a “compact” car at that time even though it was much smaller than any mid-size cars in that era; the term was only used as a contrast from other small imported cars that were being introduced into the marketplace.  Generally, Mid-size cars are a term used for cars that are smaller than larger cars. US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in its Fuel Economy Regulations defines mid-size cars as any car that has an interior volume index of 110–119 cu ft (3.1–3.4 m3) and this is based on the combined passenger and cargo volume. This definition also includes the later model year of 1996.
