Mercedes-Benz Will Halt Production Of The V8 Due To A Number Of Issues

For the model year 2022, the firm discreetly discontinued offering V8-powered cars in the United States, including the C63, GLC 63, E63, GLE63, GLS580 & 63 & 600, and even the G550 & 63. So, what’s the deal? Initially, it was thought to be supply chain concerns as well as a global chip shortage, but the truth is rather different. The AMG chief shifted gears and admitted that the stop-sale is due to a serious quality issue.

AMG is keeping quiet about the nature of the quality issue, but it must be serious to stop selling all of these popular models in the United States by 2022. It’s unique, though, because the Vantage will continue to use the M177 TT V8, while the new S-Class will be available in the United States with the M176 mild-hybrid TT V8. (The Aston Martin variant has a different tune and build than the Mercedes-Benz vehicles.) Misfires, coil packs, and some known electrical gremlins are all regular concerns with the M177, though none are very widespread. The good news is that, despite Mercedes’ intentions to be nearly entirely electric by 2030, the V8 will continue to be produced for another ten years.
