The German marques, as expected, dominated this year’s Munich motor show, erecting massive stands not only in the expo centre on the outskirts of town but also in the heart of Munich’s old town. BMW, Porsche, and Audi all put on impressive displays (I especially liked Audi’s naming its stand the “hall of progress”), but one brand stood out above the rest, not just for the size of their elaborate displays, but also for the sheer volume of exciting new metal on display: Mercedes.

Last week, Mercedes-Benz showcased five new all-electric vehicles: two ideas and three production-ready models. That’s an impressive declaration of ambition from a company that presently sells only two electric vehicles. In a nutshell, they are as follows:

The Mercedes-AMG EQS is the world’s first electric vehicle to sport Mercedes’ iconic AMG emblems. An ultra-luxury wafter capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph quicker than the typical supercar.

The Mercedes EQE is the E-equivalent Class of the Mercedes EQS. But you already knew that. It also uses the same unique EV design as the EQS, which means plenty of cabin room.

The Mercedes EQB was a boxy compact SUV that flew under the radar. Is it a piece for a party? It has an optional third row, making it one of the few electric seven-seat family hauliers on the market. Just keep in mind that the back seats are only meant for people who are under 5 feet 4 inches tall.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept is a wheeled middle finger to the rest of the world. A vehicle for those who believe the standard EQS is “for peasants.” As a range-topping Maybach should be, it’s annoying to the max.
