Meet the New Mercedes EQXX, Made With Mushrooms & Cactus, Breaks Its Own Record, Goes 747 Miles on a Single Charge

The new kid in the block is the Mercedes EQXX which is made using mushroom and cactus leather. 

Looking at this car, you’ll like to believe that this is Mercedes’ way of trying to venture into building sustainable vehicles. Some parts of the car are made using recycled materials. Parts of the door are made using recycled plastic bottles, and the floor mats are made of bamboo.

There are many interesting things that this car is up to. It’s a fully-electric sedan that is capable of doing more than 1000km (621mi) on a single charge as verified by the German Technical Inspection Association.

The car wears a sleek droptail design, and it is incredibly aerodynamic which helps to extend the range of this car.

It also comes with a rear diffuser that can be automatically deployed above speeds of 50km/h (31mph).

It is also supported with ducts that help guide air over the top of its totally flat wheels, reducing drag.

Even the radiator of this car has been angled specifically to improve airflow.

The mirrors of the car have also been carefully considered to improve the aerodynamics of the car.

The Mercedes emblem is also now a sticker, the reason is because Mercedes wants to improve aero and reduce weight.

Because the screens of digital side mirrors would alos add too much weight, Mercedes replaced the EQXX with normal mirrors instead.

The belief is that reducing weight is incredibly important for improving range.

The Mercedes EQXX weighs 100kg more than a Mercedes-Benz C-Class which it shares its wheelbase with.

This weight is also half a tonne less than the Mercedes EQS electric sedan.

Mercedes does not only give the exterior of the EQXX the futuristic look, the interior also looks futuristic.

Everything around the infotainment is touchscreen the whole way across and can display some next-level information.

The touchscreen infotainment can turn into a massive map, and also tell you which way the wind is blowing.

What this futuristic feature does is that it lets you know you can speed up without using any extra battery life.

However, if you end up using up a considerable amount of the battery, there are solar panels on the roof to give an extra 20km (12.4mi) of range each day.

The unfortunate news for anyone reading this and anticipating seeing the EQXX in real time, the disappointment is that it won’t make it to production.

The good news is that Mercedes has confirmed that some of the technology and materials will be seen in its future road cars.
