British brand Land Rover has enjoyed its status as one of the most loved brands in Nigeria. Not just Nigerians, but many others love the Range Rover including the British monarch. Despite how much Nigerians love this brand, things are changing and it’s going to affect the luxury standard of the Range Rover. Unfortunately, Land Rover’s dependability is now in question as they are some of the least reliable vehicles money can buy.

Who Said Land Rover Vehicles  Are Not dependable?

In 2023, the standard Land Rover Range Rover is followed by the athletic Sport variant and the luxurious Velar and Evoque. Although the Discovery, Discovery Sport, and Defender models have more off-road credentials, they’re still luxurious as those mentioned above.

Still, the very high prices of the Range Rover and rare wood accents on the interior dashboard don’t mean a vehicle is dependable. J.D. Power’s 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) found that Land Rover owners weren’t impressed with their products.

How does J.D. Power rank vehicle dependability?

J.D. Power took 30,062 examples pulled from the 2020 model. During the initial Quality Study to analyze vehicle and brand dependability. After three years of owner use, J.D. identified 184 types of complaints from customers, classifying them into various categories. They include:

  • Climate
  • Driving Assistance
  • Driving Experience
  • Features/Controls/Displays (FCD)
  • Exterior
  • Infotainment
  • Interior
  • Powertrain
  • Seats.

Why is Land Rover such an Undependable Brand In 2023?

One of the issues with modern Land Rover Range Rover is that they are highly sophisticated and extremely expensive to fix air suspension. Also, the frequency and severity of Range Rover repairs are much higher than luxury and mass-market auto brands. However, most of the issues seem to lie within its electronics, according to owner reports.

J.D. Power found that the electronics issues of Range Rovers are widespread issues in the brand. Six of the top 10 problem areas in modern vehicles originate within the infotainment system—making up 49.9 

The consumer analysis agency explains built-in voice recognition systems, Bluetooth connectivity, touchscreens, navigation systems, and USB ports are top contributors to issues with long-term dependability. Regardless, Land Rover has a lot of work to do in all areas of their vehicles to improve for next year’s test.

What Does This Mean For Range Rover Owners In Nigeria?

In Nigeria, Range Rovers are considered one of the markers of class. It’s a car mostly owned by wealthy Nigerians. But, with this current issue with the Range Rover and other Land Rover vehicles, the cars will lose their value.

Unfortunately, due to the issues with the Range Rover, Nigerian celebrities who own it won’t make enough profit from the expensive amount they paid to acquire it in the first place.
