With the presence of the rainy season, drivers and car owners driving past the Ijaiye section of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway experience difficulties due to the flood situation in this area.

According to drivers in this area, there’s always the looming fear that the flood could sink cars. It has become a matter of urgent intervention, which needs both the participants of Lagos and the Ogun government.

To tackle this issue and promote road and environmental safety, the Lagos and Ogun state government have set up a working committee to tackle flooding and oversee proper water extraction in this area.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Ogun State on Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya, who disclosed the statement on Sunday.

Mr Ola Oresanya states that with the participation of both governments, the water extraction process became necessary. They are devising a way to reduce flooding in this area, thereby making it safe for both motorists and villagers.

He added that “the committee will equally plan for a joint dredging of Ogun-River and its tributaries by the Ministries of Environment of both states from both ends to prevent flooding in communities near the river.”
