The auction had many crowds who witnessed and participated in the car sales. These cars, however, are cars that have been confiscated for various reasons. Most of these are due to traffic offences ranging from driving one way to intentionally obstructing traffic across various parts of the state.

At the auction, the Chairman of Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, spoke to newsmen saying that the terminating end of any enforcement exercise carried out by the Agency is the Mobile Court which determines the fate of cars seized due to traffic violation.

He said, “my role as a Police officer is to carry out enforcement exercises, one of which is confiscating vehicles for traffic offences and handing them over to the mobile court for judgement. I don’t determine the fate or outcome of any vehicle brought before the magistrate in court.”

The Chairman enlightened the public that a traffic offence is not criminal. Thus, anyone arrested should have the boldness and confidence to face the mobile court.

“Some of the cars being auctioned here were confiscated for obstruction of traffic, which only attracts a fine, but some people never showed up to claim these cars. That’s why they have been forfeited to the State Government after the stipulated period and then auctioned,” he stated.

The Coordinator of the Lagos State Special Offenses Mobile Court, Mrs Arinola Ogbara-Banjoko, was also present at the auction. She noted that all 134 cars have gone through due process in the court of law before being forfeited to the State Government for different offences.

The Chairman addressed the public to desist from committing crimes or traffic offences as no one would be spared if found guilty.

He also hoped the auction would warn road users and drivers fond of driving against traffic.
