Hyundai Postpones Ioniq 5 Electric Car Launch

Hyundai has revealed that the Ioniq 5 electric car will be delayed by a few months in the United States. It’s a letdown because the vehicle was supposed to be disruptive.

The Ioniq 5 is one of the most anticipated new electric vehicles in years. It has an 800-volt powertrain architecture that allows for the fastest charging of any electric vehicle, as well as bidirectional charging for powering other devices.

Except in North America, where Hyundai will make the Ioniq 5’s Long Range battery pack 77.4 kWh, Hyundai is offering alternative drivetrain options (rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive) on both battery packs, which are 58 kWh for the Standard Range and 72.6 kWh for the Long Range.

Given Hyundai’s emphasis on efficiency, it should be rated at well over 200 miles by the EPA. In a nutshell, the specifications are spot on. They’re already on the market in Europe, and the dealership in Friedrichshafen where we visited claimed they’re ordering as quickly as they can since they’re selling so well.

The vehicle was slated to arrive in the United States this fall, but the automaker has changed its website to postpone the introduction until this winter.

If Hyundai is referring to the official winter season, the debut would be around the end of the year. The Korean automaker has yet to reveal price in the United States, which will be crucial to the vehicle’s success.

It’s projected to be a strong contender to the N22.3 Million Tesla Model Y and N17.7 Million Mustang Mach-E, respectively.
