A Vehicle Number Plate is a car’s major form of identification. If a car has been stolen, it is traced immediately through its number plate. It is advised to get a vehicle number plate once a new car is purchased.

A Vehicle Number plate can be normal or custom made depending on how much more you are willing to spend. Getting a normal number plate is cheaper and involves fewer steps, but getting a custom made vehicle plate number is higher by some naira notes and some extra procedures. But, if you want it you have to get it.

Renew your vehicle registration information in person.

Your vehicle information has to be renewed in person. This means that it cannot be done by another person or in lieu; it has to be renewed by the original owner of the car. So, even if the car is a used car, the documents showing that the transfer rights have been passed to you have to be presented. Also, when buying a used car ensure that proof of payment and necessary documents are collected.

  1. Visit an official vehicle registration office near you, and then collect a form for the replacement of the vehicle number plate.
  2. Submission of documents like Passport photographs (2), proof of ownership of the car (this is why you need to be the owner of the car), police report, and affidavit of intent.
  3. Fill out the registration form completely when all documents have been provided.
  4. Proceed to make the payment, after the form has been filled.
  5. Return and present the proof of payment to the officer in charge.
