Following almost four years since Dangote obtained a license to begin producing and assembling cars in Nigeria, production finally began last week. Aliko Dangote is the richest man in Nigeria and Africa at large. The Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited is a joint venture owned by Alhaji Aliko Dangote via his Dangote Industries Conglomerate, the Kaduna and Kebbi stay Government as well as a technical partner (Stellantis Group, the parent company of Peugeot).
According to the management, the newly built Green Field Assembly Plant in Kaduna is able to assemble about 120 cars per day across two shifts. And they intend to expand and scale productions to produce at least 100,000 units per year. With these recent developments, it appears Nigeria is about to improve on its production of locally made cars.
