Additionally, 50% of Nigerian drivers who have broken-down vehicles on the road are doing so as a result of their vehicles overheating.

A hot car is not somewhere you want to be in. This is why we want to show you how to cool a car down in this hot Nigeria to avoid all the unpleasant problems that occur with a hot/overheating car.

Even if you park your car correctly, the sun will still heat up your vehicle because it moves throughout the day and is always present. Fear no more, there are techniques to cool down your car in Nigeria and we would reveal all to you.

How to cool your vehicle

  •  Manually fan the interior

An antiquated manual way of cooling your car consistently works.  One side of the car’s windows should be rolled down, and the other door should be opened and shut roughly five times. Eight openings and closings are sufficient

This facilitates the hot air in your car venting through the previously rolled-down windows. You could appear odd doing this, but keep in mind that it’s preferable to perspiring while driving.

  • Properly turn on the air conditioning

Although it seems apparent, have you been cooling your automobile in the proper manner? We have some doubts.

If your automobile has an “external air option,” select it by clicking the button that depicts an arrow entering the car after starting the engine and turning the A/C fan level all the way up. That is the switch that activates the outside air supply.

You should also make sure that all of the windows are cranked down to the lowest setting because the air outside the car will be significantly cooler than the air inside. The A/C will require some time to pull the hot air out of the car, so it is advisable to even start driving so that wind can rush in. Your air conditioning system won’t deteriorate or experience frequent problems if you do it this way.

  • Begin with the bottom vents.

Set the foot sign to indicate the angle at which the cold air will exit from the lower air vents. Because hot air naturally rises, it is ideal to gently push the warm air to the lower part of the vehicle so that it can exit through the open windows. The switch only allows air to come from below.

Close the top vents, which are the ones often found at the level of your chest, to ensure that all air movement is downward.

  • You can roll up when it gets cold

Roll up your window and take in the view once you notice that the air inside the car is cooler than the air outside.

  •  Make the air flow again

The upper vents can now be opened for normal functioning after switching the circulation button of the A/C system to the usual mode.

This entire process would typically take five minutes, which is a good amount of time to wait in order to avoid the risks associated with hot-car driving.

Health risks associated with hot-car driving

  •  Migraine

We can attest that driving in a heated car results in a certain kind of headache. the kind of headache that hurts your eyes. Headaches when driving impair concentration and increase the risk of accidents.

Even when you take medication, this headache persists as long as you are still operating the heated vehicle.

  • Catarrh

One of the health risks of driving when your automobile is hot inside is catarrh and runny nose. It is easily activated once you are in a hot automobile because of the heat as well as the fact that heated air causes any strange smell in the car to emerge.

How do you avoid having a hot automobile in the first place?

Use a sunshade on your windscreen

When you park your car, the windscreen sunshade helps limit the amount of sunlight that can get inside.

This will significantly help to keep your automobile cool. When you park the car, you just tuck the sunshade onto the windscreen and hold it in place with the wiper blades.

Put the car in a spot out of the sun

Always make an effort to park your automobile in a shaded area. When I say park your car away from the sun, er mean beneath a shade or canopy because the sun moves. Parking beneath a tree shade works too. You can only be sure that the sun won’t impact your automobile when you park under a shade.

Leave the windows slightly open

You can roll down your windows a few centimetres to provide for better airflow, especially as the heated air rises within the vehicle. Keep the windows only a few centimetres down at all times to make your automobile less appealing to car thieves.

 Cover your seats

If your car has leather seats, you should use seat covers to shield them from the sun’s rays.  Use seat covers if your chairs are leather. After parking your car, you can also use towels or pieces of clothing to cover the two front seats.
