Buhari to Spend N1.6 billion on new vehicles and spare parts in 2022

The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has set aside 1.6 billion Naira in the 2022 budget to acquire vehicles and spare parts. In a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, the presidency suggested this in the budget.

A deficit of N6.26 trillion exists in the 2022 budget, which is N16.39 trillion. In response to the budget presentation, Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, stated that the Buhari government would seek more loans to cover the deficit.

In 2022, the cost of replacing vehicles and spare parts will be N1.6 billion, compared to N436 million in 2021.  The acquisition of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, plain cars, CCU vehicles, platform trucks, jeeps, ambulances, and other utility and operational vehicles will cost about N180,089,000.

N116,194,297 was set aside for a similar reason last year.

 Ali Ndume, a member representing Borno South Senatorial District, has expressed his displeasure with President Muhammadu Buhari’s intention to fund the budget through borrowing.

Ndume gave the executive the task of reducing personal and recurring costs, increasing income, and plugging any leaks.
