Bugatti Unveils A New Supercar – the W16 Mistral With The $5 Million Price Tag & It’s Sold out already

Bugatti has unveiled another flagship supercar which is believed to become the roadster to end all roadsters. The brand notes that this car, the Mistral, will offer performance, unlike any open-top car that has come before it.

Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac said, “For the final roadgoing appearance of Bugatti’s legendary W16 engine, we knew we had to create a roadster.”

The W16 will launch in colours inspired by the 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid—warm black with hints of truffle brown and yellow accents.

The supercar is also a homage to Ettore Bugatti, who chose the black and yellow combination for his cars, including his 41 Royale.

When looking at the new Mistral, it’s evident that designers took some features from the Type 57 Roadster Grand V-shaped windscreen and side windows, which flow around the side air intakes.

Still, the new Mistral comes with its unique features.

Features Of The New Bugatti W16 Mistral 

The supercar is re-engineered and reshaped to create a more rounded silhouette compared to the 1934 Bugatti it is inspired by.

It comes with new vertically stacked headlights and a deeper and broader horseshoe grille.

Bugatti’s Deputy Design Director Frank Heyl said the headlights were “intricately shaped, incorporating a four-light signature that subtly nods to the W16 Mistral’s four-wheel-drive and four turbochargers.”

If you look at this Mistral, you’ll realise that it takes its design queues from the Bugatti Chiron.

The car’s cabin is finished with an advanced lightweight titanium, aluminium components and blemish-free leathers.

There are also brand new designs like the intricately woven leather on the new block of aluminium.

It also features Rembrandt Bugatti’s famous “dancing elephant” sculpture.

Bugatti W16 Mistral’s Name Inspiration

According to the Bugatti CEO, the name was taken from a mighty wind that blows from the Rhône River valley, through southern France, and into the Mediterranean.

The W16 Mistral has an incredible 1,600 PS (1,578 horsepower).

It uses the same power unit that propelled the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ to a record-breaking world speed of 304mph (489km/h) in 2019.

Rimac, the CEO, has described his union of the roadster format with a W16 powertrain as “absolute perfection.”

“With the roof removed and a pair of large air intakes directly behind your head feeding around 70,000 litres of air through the engine every minute at full bore, driving the W16 Mistral connects you to the intricate workings of this revolutionary powertrain like no other Bugatti to date,” he said.

Bugatti has noted that only 99 examples of the W16 Mistral will be built, each priced at $5 million.

The automaker has also pointed out that the delivery will begin in 2024, and every single one of the 99 samples has already been sold out to Bugatti customers.
