Though he is popularly known as Sarkodie, his real name from birth is Michael Owusu Addo. He was born on 10 July 1988 and raised in Koforidua, Ghana. He is the fourth born of five children born and raised in Tema, Sarkodie’s hometown. He attended Tema Methodist Day Senior High School and proceeded to IPMC, where he earned a degree in graphic design.

Sarkodie began his music career as an underground rapper, he didn’t hesitate to show off his talents and skills to friends, at events, and even competitions. He participated in Adom FM’s popular rap competition ‘Kasahare Level’ where he beat other competitors hands-down and emerged as the winner.
