Born at exactly 13.00GMT on the 17th of October 1974, Oba Adeyeye was born to the family of Prince John Oluropo Ogunwusi and Princess Margaret Wuraola Sidikatu Abegbe Ogunwusi into the Royal House of Giesi, Agbedegbede Compound in the ancestral home of Ile-Ife. 

According to history, his birth was predicted before he was conceived. This was why his mother named him ‘Enitan’ while his grandfather named him Adeyeye, which means ‘the crown befits the throne. He is the fifth of his father’s seven children and the third son. Aderope Ogunwusi was a veteran radio and TV broadcaster that spanned the entire mid-1980s to early 21st century in the South-Western part of Nigeria.

He set up and fostered strong trade relationships through the Association for International Business (AIB) with a presence in over 200 member countries across the globe. With his vision and creativity, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi transformed a remote jungle called Inagbe Island in Amuwo Odofin LGA, Lagos into one of the best resort places in Nigeria. Launched on 13th December 2013; the multi-billion naira Inagbe Grand Resorts and Leisure, Lagos Nigeria is the first of its kind in the whole of West Africa bounded by the Lagos Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean.

Following the death of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, who died on July 28, 2015, in a London hospital, Adeyeye Ogunwusi was selected as the king-elect out of 21 contenders to the Ooni stool. He was crowned as the 51st Ooni of Ife on Monday, December 7th, 2015 at Enuwa Square, Ile-Ife. The Coronation was graced with the presence of several dignitaries from all walks of life, including the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. 

On the day of his coronation, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi promised to cause peace and prosperity to abound during his reign. On January 17th, 2016, the Ooni broke a 79-year-old antagonism between the thrones of Ife and Oyo by visiting the Alaafin, the first of such visits in eight decades by an Ife monarch. Various notable and outstanding progress has been recorded in Ife since he began to reign. He established a large Coco farm with the intent of feeding thousands of widows in the state.

In 2008, he married Adebukola Bombata, from whom he separated in 2016. He also married Zaynab Otiti Obanor, (his second wife from 2016 to 2017).
