The Hilux V6 Adventure is the biggest grade in the model 2022 lineup and it comes with some amazing features that distinguish the truck from other trims such as the different front grille and front bumper, 18 inches of black alloy wheels, and some touches on the bumpers. It is much bigger, stronger, and more rugged than your normal 2021 Toyota Hilux Invincible.
Toyota engineers carefully designed the vehicle to enhance passengers’ comfort. Features include steering control switches, a single exhaust system, remote control, rain sensors, smart key system, thumb start button, 2 drive modes (Eco- PWR), and a differential-lock system at the rear.
How Does It Perform?
The Toyota Hilux comes with just one engine which is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel engine and all models come with four-wheel drive. Your only choices are whether you want a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox and whether you want your engine with stop-start tech to save a bit of fuel in heavy traffic. The engine produces 150 horsepower, just about perky enough to deal with a cab full of passengers or a fully laden bed. It can also pull a braked trailer weighing 3.5 tonnes!
What Will You Find In The Cabin?
Asides from the entry-level trucks, the Toyota Hilux comes with a well-equipped cabin. It does not feel so plush though, and the infotainment can seem a real pain to use.
Unlike some trucks that look just as chunky and tough on the inside as they do on the outside, the Toyota Hilux’s interior looks and feels much more like it belongs in a Corolla hatchback than a tough-looking pickup
You get a slick-looking dashboard with a set of nicely recessed instruments and a row of sensible physical heating and ventilation controls tucked beneath the stereo. The stereo is a fairly basic unit in entry-level Active models, but Icon versions and above come with a nicer-looking 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an extra 4.0-inch display within the rev-counter and speedometer.
These mid-range trucks also come with a bright silver trim stretching across the dashboard and doors along with a leather-trimmed handbrake and gear lever. Invincible models do not add any visual upgrades as standard, but they will give the choice to pay extra for a range of five leatherette seat coverings.
Those who fancy the real leather seats will have to go for a top-spec Toyota Hilux Invincible X. These are also heated and come with electric adjustment as standard. With the same basic cabin layouts, the numerous plastic surfaces feel harder and scratchier than those in a VW Amarok. Every part of the Toyota Hilux’s interior feels like it will stand up to a good few years of tough use.
There is a lot of space in the Toyota Hilux’s front seats, but smaller drivers might struggle to climb on board gracefully in entry-level cars because they do not come with running boards. These more affordable models do without a height-adjustable driver’s seat so if you are rather smaller or taller than average you might want to upgrade to an Icon model instead.
Thankfully, all Toyota Hilux models come with a steering wheel that adjusts for height and reach to help you get a good view of the instruments, but only top-spec Invincible X models get electric seat adjustment.
If you need to carry much younger passengers, all Toyota Hilux Double Cab models come with Isofix anchor points for the rear seats. These are easy to access and the truck’s raised ride height makes it a doddle to lift in and secure a seat.

The 2022 pickup truck comes with an 80-litre fuel tank capacity. Also available are side steps on the side and rear, 18 inches alloy wheels, and LED headlights.
2022 Toyota HiLux Engine And Transmission
The most powerful engine in the 2022 Toyota HiLux range is a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, which produces 150kW of power at 3400rpm and 500Nm of torque at 1600-2800rpm when fitted with a six-speed automatic. Manual models develop 420Nm at 1400-3400rpm.
Lower grades offer a 110kW/400Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, while the entry-level versions are fitted as standard with a 122kW/245Nm 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
The smaller diesel makes peak power and torque at 3400rpm and 1600-2000rpm respectively, while the petrol does the same at 5200rpm and 4000rpm respectively.
Both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations are available throughout the line-up, with manual and automatic transmissions offered for all powertrains.
Petrol models are fitted as standard with a five-speed manual transmission as standard while the diesel is mated to a six-speeder. A six-speed automatic is optional or standard depending on the variant. The 2.8-litre diesel uses between 7.1L/100km and 8.1L/100km, depending on the trim.
Meanwhile, the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel is rated at between 7.4L/100km and 8.0L/100km depending on the variant. Finally, the petrol four uses between 7.1L/100km and 8.0L/100km. The variations in fuel economy are based on body style, drivetrain (4×2 or 4×4) and transmission, for reference.

Toyota always takes the safety of its customers into consideration when producing any model. All versions of the HiLux get a suite of Toyota Safety Sense technologies as standard, including high-speed adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning with steering assist via brakes.
