2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5: The First of Its Kind

Hyundai has pulled the wraps off of the 2022 Ioniq 5 and it looks nearly identical to the Hyundai 45 concept which is a major achievement. It will make its US debut on May 24th but as of now, Hyundai is saying it should get up to 300miles of range! It rides on the all new e-GMP electric modular architecture. Outside is that popular concept design with 20in aero wheels, pixel LED lights, a unique triangle grill, flush pop-out door handles, and a generally stunning shape.

The e-GMP platform isn’t a joke econobox architecture, it’s the real deal. The Ioniq 5 is RWD first though dual motor AWD is on offer. Batteries range from 58kWh to 72.5kWh. But the U.S. version gets a 77.4kWh battery. The base battery RWD spec gets 168HP and 258 lb-ft of torque while the large battery RWD gets 215HP. Dual motor AWD gets you either 161HP with the small battery or 208HP with the big battery. It can charge from 10% to 80% in 18min thanks to the 800v architecture and the top end model can do 300miles of range.

The Ioniq 5 is big, measuring 182.5in long with a 118in wheelbase, making it a midsize SUV. (That wheelbase is 3.9in longer than the 7 seater Pallisade). Inside has a flat floor, fully reclining front seats and dual 12in screens similar to a Mercedes MBUX system. There also is a massive HUD, recycled interior materials, a solar roof, a trunk and more. It will arrive later this year as will the Ioniq brand with the SEXY Ioniq 6 based on ht e Porsche looking Prophecy concept going into production next year.
