2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Preview

The Jeep Cherokee has a big challenge to contend with, which has to deliver the kind of comfort and convenience that everyone expected of family-friendly small SUVs such as the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5. On the other, it’s a Jeep and it needs more off-road capabilities than those more conventional crossovers. It fills the middle ground between the smaller Jeep Compass and larger Grand Cherokee nicely, and it’s in a numerical tie for fourth place with the Hyundai Tucson in Edmunds’ rankings. That could all change soon, though.

As a carryover, we expect most of its exterior design to remain the same in the 2021 Cherokee, including its revamped nose and headlights, smooth body lines, and custom look in the Trailhawk variant. Inside, the current Cherokee is a little dated with its dashboard shape, relatively cluttered center stack, and in-dash touchscreen, but it takes a turn for the classy in its higher trim levels to make up for this relative simplicity. We expect the cabin to remain the same in the 2021 Cherokee.

The Jeep Cherokee returned to the market in 2014, following a 12-year hiatus. When it returned, it arrived with a funky look that stood out in the crowded crossover market with its smooth body lines and slit-like headlights. In 2019, it dropped the thin headlights in favor of more traditional units, and it’s remained unchanged since. We expect the 2021 Jeep Cherokee to be a carryover model.
