Toyota Corolla has made world history by earning the title of ‘best-selling car of the year’ in 1974. Ever since the car made its debut in 1966, over 33 million units of it have been sold. Just like every other Toyota product, the car has its reputation for being dependable with high fuel economy. The 2011 Toyota Corolla came refreshed with improved styling and safety features. A major highlight for the 2011 Corolla is that it comes well-suited for normal daily commuting.

Unlike other Corolla models that come with five trims, 2011 has only three trims available. It was unexpected news to Toyota fans when Toyota discontinued the production of the sport-tuned XRS trim, which has a better sporty feel and powerful 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine.

The 2011 Toyota Corolla is a five-passenger compact sedan that is available in base, LE and S trim levels. Standard features on the base model include 15-inch steel wheels, power mirrors, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack.

In addition to base model features the LE trim adds keyless entry, power locks, power windows (optional on base), variable intermittent wipers, cruise control and six speakers.

The S trim adds 16-inch alloy wheels, a sport-look body kit, a rear spoiler, upgraded cloth upholstery, steering-wheel audio controls and an upgraded trip computer.

Individuals who want to experience a luxury feel on their LE and S Corolla can select from various optional features made available by Toyota. A sunroof that includes an overhead console with map lamps and a sunglasses holder is optional for LE and S trims. The Premium package available on the LE includes 16-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, the sunroof and the upgraded audio system.

2011 Toyota Corolla Performance And Mpg

Under the hood of every 2011 Toyota Corolla is a 1.8-liter inline-4 that produces 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual is standard and a four-speed automatic is optional. An automatic-equipped Corolla went from zero to 60 mph in 10.1 seconds.

EPA-estimated fuel economy stands at 26 mpg city/34 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined with the automatic and 28/35/31 with the manual. The Corolla’s fuel economy used to be remarkable, however, its impressiveness has paled since the Hyundai Elantra came with a 40 mpg on the highway and 33mpg combined.

2011 Toyota Corolla Interior

Compared to close competitors like the Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Focus, the interior of the 2011 Toyota Corolla looks less attractive and non-sophisticated. However, riding in the Corolla promises a comfortable ride, as the seats are soft and comfy. Headroom and legroom both at the front and rear seats are remarkably spacious to accommodate even talk drivers.

Furthermore, the Toyota Corolla’s controls are easy to operate. Major interior features including  Air conditioning, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a CD player are standard, in addition to a new trip computer. Optional features include a navigation system and XM Satellite Radio. Visibility for the driver is greatly enhanced by its low dashboard and windshield base and an optional high capacity heater which is very helpful in rainy weather.

A major upside feature of the Corolla is that it has a quiet cabin. Also, with 12.3 cubic feet of space, trunk space is average, but the trunk boasts a usefully wide opening to easily load in luggage.

2011 Toyota Corolla Driving Experience

If you just need a car for normal daily commuting, the Corolla is a good car to use. Compared to most other models in this class (like the 2011 Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, or Honda Civic), the Corolla feels slightly down on power—especially at highway speeds.

In general, it has a smooth engine; and wind and road noise are at the barest minimum even when driving at high speeds. The fuel economy is impressive too, especially if you are a fuel budget-conscious driver.

2011 Toyota Corolla Safety

Toyota is big on ensuring safety for its users. 2011 Toyota Corolla comes with overhead airbags, side and front impact airbags, anti-lock brakes when there is emergence, stability and traction control to maintain the wheels of the track, security system, dual frontal, tire pressure monitor, anti-whiplash to prevent rear collision and pre-tensioners in seat belts.
