Introduced for 2021 as an all-new model, the Ghost sedan rides on Rolls-Royce’s dedicated Architecture of Luxury platform and is the marque’s “entry-level” offering. Slightly longer, lower and wider than the outgoing car, the Ghost tones down the exterior bling but gains a back-lit grill. New for 2022 is the Black Badge edition that ups the power, handling, and attitude. Not all Black Badge vehicles are black, but they can be spotted by their carbon-fibre wheels, black grill and Flying Lady hood ornament, plus special interior treatment with bold splashes of colour.

Performance

Power from the 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 jumps from 563 horsepower and 627 lb-ft to 591 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, and a press of a button marked “Low” on the shift stalk sharpens shift times while firming up the steering and air suspension. As with all Ghosts, the BB sedan is fitted with all-wheel drive and rear-wheel-steering. The retuned suspension serves up markedly better body control, yet the Black Badge’s ride remains uncannily quiet and smooth.

Practicality

The Rolls-Royce Ghost can be configured for four or five persons, and its finely carpeted trunk will swallow a full complement of luggage. The available veneered rear seat picnic tables, with power deployment, could be considered practical, as would the optional champagne cooler containing two flutes. The rear coach doors feature full power opening and closing, and each holds an umbrella.

Value

The Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge bows at ₦500,000,000. Of course, every Rolls is highly personalized, with imagination and patron’s depth-of-pocket being the only true restraints.
