This claim was made by Elon when recently speaking via a video link at an artificial intelligence (AI) conference in Shanghai, China.

Elon stated that Tesla should be realizing fully autonomous vehicles at some point “later this year,” he predicted. However, he stressed that “this is only speculation.”

So, car enthusiasts do not 100% rely on Elon’s words, considering the Tesla boss was only speculating.

But why’s that?

Elon Musk has had a history of being overly optimistic in his forecasts of the arrival of fully driverless cars. However, during the conference, he noted that he feels “we’re closer to it than we ever have been.”

Does this mean Tesla is likely the first automobile company to introduce driverless cars into the market? There’s no certainty. The answer will become obvious if Elon fulfils his promise of introducing Tesla driverless cars before the end of the year.
