Supply Fuel Disruption Major reason as Some petrol Stations Shut Down in Lagos, Other States

Several filling stations across key parts of the nigeria especially Lagos were forced to shut down on Monday and Tuesday due to disruptions in the petrol supply. Reports indicate that among the numerous stations surveyed, the NNPCL filling station on Akowonjo Road and mobil fuel station in awolowo way ikeja remained open . Stakeholders suggested that the combination of supply chain disruptions and the public holiday could be contributing to the fuel scarcity.

The Punch conducted visits to affected areas such as Ikotun, Akonwonjo Egbeda, and the Igando axis, noting that petrol was available at Mobil filling stations along the Ikotun-Idimu route and the Odo-Eran axis of the Isheri-Igando road. However, long queues were observed at these Mobil gas stations.

Furthermore, it was observed that only one Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited outlet, situated on the Egbeda-Akowonjo axis, was dispensing fuel. Additionally, several gas stations along the Mowe-Ibafo axis in Ogun state were not selling fuel.

Hammed Fashola, National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, attributed the supply disruption and fuel scarcity to the ongoing challenges in the petrol's supply, exacerbated by the recent public holiday. Fashola acknowledged that the supply issue had begun prior to the holiday period and predicted that it would alleviate by Wednesday after the Easter break.

Fashola commented, "I believe there is a minor disruption in supply. The Easter holiday from Friday to Monday has also contributed to the situation. I anticipate that by Wednesday, the situation will improve. The holiday spans almost four days and naturally impacts supply. However, there were supply challenges even before the holiday, which were further complicated by the holiday itself. I am optimistic that things will improve post-holiday."
